Reign: Realities - Newborn World

The churning mass of flesh and light menaces me.

It opens hundreds of shifting mouths and charges at me with thousands of legs.

I’m not fast enough. My dagger is useless. It wants to consume me, to steal my name and my form and add it to its chaos.

I refuse to die here. I am Kin. I am tamer, not tamed.

I drop my weapon and grasp the mass. I ignore the explosion of sensations on my skin and dig my fingers in. I think of the gray, four legged creatures in the forest, the one my father named “Wolf.” He killed wolves with ease, but I am not my father. I am better. Why make something to kill when it could instead serve?

I imagine the Wolf but smaller, its legs longer and thinner, its facial features softer. When it is done, the mass opens its two eyes and I see a flash of terror in them.

I pet its snout. “Dog,” I say. It’s just a random utterance, but it feels right. “You are Dog.”

What is the Newborn World?

The Newborn World is a prehistoric fantasy setting where you and your friends play inhabitants of the Tabula Rasa, a literal island of stability in the chaos of the Endless Ocean. Life on the island is harsh, but you are Kin, a band of hardy survivors united by purpose and one of the very first societies. With the power of Shaping and Naming, the special powers of the Kin, you remake the land as you see fit.

The Newborn World is not just a setting. It can also be played in a Legacy format, which transforms it into a new setting for future Reign campaigns.

This setting again gives players the opportunity to start at the very beginning, only this time, it’s not just the cradle of a civilization, but of an entire cosmos. Newborn World gives you mythic primitivism, where characters little better than cave-dwellers are the ones building the future one mystic utterance at a time. It plays a lot like standard Reign, with the twist that the setting is, literally, a blank slate.

Reign: Realities - Newborn World requires the Reign: Rules book to play.
